PC World : Single & Video : So, this is the third in my set of quirky, retro, pop, wacky, unusual singles. This one is about how much time we spend glued to the TV or PC, as well as political correctness gone mad, to the point where we are all ending up turning into a cartoon like Roger Rabbit! It’s all about the kind of crazy world we live in.
The song has some funky characters including a centipede who spends hours counting his toes, other characters include fish, monkeys, baboons, and some flying cats who float on a screensaver sky, and then there is the shoofly!
It’s a sort of reminiscent of Peter Gabriel’s Sledgehammer, The B52’s or Talking Heads with a hint of Sergeant Pepper visuals, plus the wackiness and magic of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The weatherman predicts that it will rain flowers!
This track has a psychedelic and retro feel with a definite 60’s/70’s style. I hope anyone listening or watching will want to dress up in hippie gear and do the hand jive or the twist, the stomp, the monster mash or any of those old fun dances.
In my head, when I wrote it, I imagined an Austin Powers type of look, with flower power dresses, sunglasses, big hats and hairbands, the swinging sixties really, full of big fashion and popular culture.
The other side of the track is the video which explores all the things we used to do in the sixties and seventies before we became screen obsessed, like dutch skipping, hula hoops, stilts, pogo sticks, roller skates, space hoppers and having fun with old fashioned but now vintage toys. These included polaroid cameras, beach balls, lava lamps, record players, vinyl LP’s and 7 inch singles etc. We even used dial up bakelite telephones. We had even more fun trying to blow bubblegum bubbles and bouncing on space hoppers, it was pretty crazy.
It really is a crazy, crazy world we inhabit; I hope you enjoy this mad, crazy, commercial, ‘off the wall’ song. I really wanted it to sound and feel retro, we enjoyed making an old fashioned lounge with that loud vibrant 1960s wall paper.
