Recently, I have been releasing 1 single every month along with a video. I wrote Rocket Tonight a while back, however I never really did much with it at the time, so I revisited it, I have had many more ideas and energy to put into the track, I really like it and I am pleased with the final result.

The song has a definite 80’s vibe to it, I used a lot of arpeggios and synths, the drums and percussion, performed and programmed by Nigel Ward, feature heavily throughout and it is probably the most rocky track out of the series of songs so far. Nigel also produced the track along with Chris Baker.

The lyrics are really quite mad too, the chorus is telling the story of how we are going to rock all of the world.

I try to get across how exciting space is, having no bounds and how uninspiring at times earth can be, a reflection of how I felt at the time of writing, I think!

It also conveys in the lyrics how “time goes around in circles” and “here we are again” whereas space is timeless, the whole song is a bit crazy and very lively.

This video is one of my favorites, it has a lot of life and visually this comes across really well. The drums were programmed by Nigel on a Roland TR909 drum machine in turn triggering a Linn Drum, so performing on the video to match this was really fun and I used a lot of different drums to convey the fast paced drumming.

The recording was also made on analogue tape and then digitized at the mastering stage!

I went for a punk look costume for the video as it seemed to fit the sound of the track.

I can’t compare this to any track I can think of, although I do think that it has a real 80’s sound to it , where at the time lots of synths were used, such as OMD and Depeche Mode.

Rocket Tonight also has a dance feel to it, so would possibly fit a club market too.
